Skil 3400-08 15 Amp 10-Inch Table Saw with Stand Specifications

Here’s a handy, economical little benchtop saw that can handle the cuts the big boys make, but with a smaller footprint and a smaller price tag.

At just 54 pounds, it’s lightweight and compact, making it great for hauling to a job site, in and our of your garage or around the house, and it’s even got cut-out handles designed into the tabletop for easy transporting. The power cord wraps neatly on the built-in rack, and all the accessories store on board, another plus if your saw’s going to be mobile. And even though it’s small, it’s still got a 15-amp motor in its guts, giving you plenty of power for treated lumber and decking. You can slip a high-quality carbide blade onto the standard 5/8-inch arbor and make some beautiful cuts.

Rip capacity is a foot to the right and the same plus a quarter-inch to the left, and depth of cut with the blade upright is 3 inches. If you set the blade to its full 45-degree bevel, your depth of cut is still 2-1/2 inches.

The only thing we really dislike about this saw is that the Skil folks chose a nonstandard width for the miter slot, really limiting what you can buy ready-made in terms of jigs, crosscut sleds, after-market miter gauges and other attachments. Instead of the usual ¾ of an inch, this one measures out at 5/8 of an inch. Skil, why did you do that? However, if you plan to use the miter gauge that comes with the saw and nothing else, then it’s a non-issue for you.

It’s a nice little basic saw for home-improvement projects and rough cuts; that’s really what it does best. But if you want precision, look up the table saw food chain a little higher.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
